Palamós Fishing Museum Documentation Centre Library - Documare

Documare is a public information service specialising in the sea and fishing in Catalonia, based at the Fishing Museum in Palamós (Girona). It provides information, advice and technical and documentary support for dissemination initiatives and research projects that aim to make known and underline the importance of the sea, fishing, its heritage and its people.

Its archives include specialist collections on sea fishing from the perspective of the social sciences, in multiple supports. Its main task is to make its archives and collections accessible to researchers and students, as well as to the Fishing Museum's own technical staff and connected organisations.

At the same time, it aims to generate and disseminate knowledge about maritime fishing, our coastal and gastronomic heritage, and the consumption of fish by means of dissemination and cultural outreach activities.

Documare is a project set up in 2006 by the University of Girona, Palamós City Council and the Pro-Mediterranean Foundation, with the institutional support of the Fishing Museum, the Chair of Maritime Studies, and the Libraries Service of the UdG.

The Documare Library makes available to users a specialist archive collection on the subject of the sea and fishing from the standpoint of the social sciences. It comprises over 11,000 references, including monographs, newspapers, articles in hard copy or digital format, grey literature, seafaring maps, themed dossiers, and photographic and audio-visual material.

Since 2003, the Documare archive collection has been integrated into the UdG’s Library Catalogue.
