EUROPEAN DOCUMENTATION CENTRE
IntroductionThe European Documentation Centre (EDC) of Girona University opened its services to the public in September 1995. This centre is part of a network of information centres designated by the European Commission. The Commission has the authority to designate an EDC at any university that offers courses on European integration. Following the agreement signed on 23 May 1995 the EDC receives, free of charge, all official publications from the institutions and offical bodies of the European Union. The EDC processes and distributes the information produced by the Office for Official Publications of the European Communites, including the publications of EUROSTAT. The university, for its part, is obliged to provide the centre with the infrastructure and personnel required for the centre to function. The main objectives of the EDC are:
The EDC is a public service. Anybody from the University community or from outside can consult the documentary resources. Services Offered
Typology of the documentation on the EDCThe EDC holds some publications of common and general interest such as Official Bulletins and publications about European Institutions and their bodies. It also receives publications compiled for other European Documentation Centres. Furthermore, periodicals and monographic studies on the following subjects are available:
The information held in the EDC can be accessed using the Library Catalogue of Girona University (VTLS), from any point in the university and from home. and other scientific periodicals on subjects specialised in at the European Documentation Centre ActivitiesThe EDC organises conferences, workshops and other events to promote knowledge of European integration principally in the Girona counties. The EDC collaborates with other organisations in Girona related to the European Union such as the Delegation of Pro-European Catalan Board, Info-Point and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation. It is also in contact with other organisations such as the College of Lawyers of Girona and Figueres, the Cultural Centre, the Deputation and local councils, amongst others.
